Cades Cove is one of the true wonders of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This peaceful valley was home to the original pioneers who settled here in the 1800s. Many historic log cabins and primitive churches have been preserved, as if time stood still.

I recall capturing “Memory Lane” on this glorious spring morning. I arrived at the main entrance of Cades Cove in complete darkness, waiting patiently in my car for the forest ranger to open the gate to the Cades Cove loop road, known for its 11-mile scenic drive. I approached Sparks Lane, a picturesque setting just before sunrise, giving me ample time to set up my camera gear and compose the scene. Soon, warm golden hues from the sunlight bring the landscape into view, and Sparks Lane comes to life. Memories began flooding my mind of the country roads from rural Indiana, where I spent my childhood, creating this perfect memorable moment to capture.
